Literary marathon with EUPL laureates at the Book World event in Prague

A ‘Literary marathon’ took place on 9 June, during the Book World Prague Festival.

A selection of EUPL laureates joined the event, representing the diversity of languages rewarded by the Prize: David Machado (Portugal, 2015), author of ‘Indice Medio de Felicidade’ (Average Happiness Index, Dom Quixote, 2013), Oddný Eir Ævarsdóttir (Iceland, 2014), who won the Prize with ‘Jarðnæði’ (Land of love; plan of ruins, Bjartur, 2011) and Antonis Georgiou (Cyprus, 2016), author of Ένα αλπούμ ιστορίες’ (An Album of Stories, Το Ροδακιό, 2014).

EUPL winners at the International Book Fair of Santo Domingo

The 24th International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2022 (Dominican Republic) will be held in Ciudad Colonial (Santo Domingo) from 23 April to 2 May. This year's theme is “Ven al libro” (Come to the book) and the special guest is the European Union.

As special guest, the EU will hold a pavilion which will be showcasing a collection of books by writers who have won the European Union Prize for Literature.

In addition, three EUPL laureates will come in person to the Book Fair this weekend (30 April - 1 May) to conduct interviews:

The European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL) recognises emerging fiction writers from the European Union and beyond. Engaging the 41 countries participating in the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, the Prize celebrates 41 outstanding new literary talents across a cycle of three years. Spotlighting the creativity and the immense and diverse wealth of Europe’s contemporary literature in the field of fiction, EUPL aims to encourage the circulation of literature within Europe and encourage greater interest in non-national literary works.

Discover EU: Women in culture event with Anja Mugerli

This Thursday, 10. 3. 2022, join a virtual discussion with Anja Mugerli, EUPL 2021 Slovenian laureate

We will talk to the writer Anja Mugerli about her short story collection The Bee Family, whose red thread is rituals or old customs typical of Slovenian culture, the European Union Prize for Literature and its creative paths. In the spirit of Women's Day, we will also touch on the profession of writer and position of literary creators throughout history. The conversation will be conducted by journalist Mojca Plaster.
